President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated a 132kV transmission line and a 132kV/33kV substation valued at N8.3 billion at Ode-Erinje in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, effectively ending a 15-year power outage in the region.
The inauguration took place on Wednesday, with the President being represented by the Minister of Niger Delta Development, Engr Abubakar Momoh.
In his address, President Tinubu emphasized that the project is part of the Federal Government’s broader initiative aimed at promoting sustainable development within the Niger Delta region. This effort is intended to enhance the quality of life for residents and support economic growth through improved infrastructure.
The President highlighted the administration’s commitment to ensuring adequate power supply across the country, recognizing the critical role that reliable electricity plays in economic development. By addressing long-standing power issues in the region, the government aims to stimulate local businesses, improve public services, and foster overall socio-economic development.
The completion of the transmission line and substation marks a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s efforts to modernize and expand Nigeria’s power infrastructure. “Therefore, the 132kv transmission line has the capacity to generate uninterrupted efficient power transmission as a bridge or power gap and to serve the people of Okitipupa and its environs, which was thrown into darkness for the past 15 years.”

“Now that the government has fulfilled its promise, it’s the turn and responsibility of the communities to fulfil their part by continuing to protect this project against vandalism,” he said.
