Popular social media activist Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following his arrest in Abuja last Friday.
The EFCC stated that VDM’s arrest was prompted by multiple petitions against him, noting that he had failed to respond to several invitations from the agency. The detention sparked widespread outrage across Nigeria, with youths demanding his immediate and unconditional release.
In a Wednesday evening update on his official Facebook page, activist and politician Omoyele Sowore announced, “VDM Released!” confirming the social media influencer’s freedom.
The release brings an end to days of public outcry and speculation surrounding the case. Further details on the circumstances of his release are yet to be disclosed.
