The Police Service Commission, PSC, has cautioned cyber cafés and recruitment agents against extorting money from applicants seeking enlistment into the Nigeria Police Force, NPF.
The warning followed reports that some applicants are being charged as much as N15,000 or more.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Commission’s spokesperson, Mr. Torty Njoku, debunked claims by certain agents that the fees collected were being remitted to the PSC or other government bodies, describing such assertions as false and deceptive.
Njoku said the Commission had received reports of the activities of “unscrupulous elements” who prey on unsuspecting applicants by demanding money under the pretext of assisting with police recruitment.
He emphasized that recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force is completely free, stressing that applicants are not required to pay any fee at any stage of the process.
The PSC advised prospective candidates to personally complete and submit their applications through the official recruitment portal at www.npfapplication.psc.gov.ng, without involving third parties.
The Commission further warned that individuals found engaging in fraudulent recruitment practices would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Applicants were encouraged to report any request for payment to the nearest police station or directly to the PSC via 07054992071 (SMS or WhatsApp only).
Reiterating its commitment to transparency and fairness, the commission assured Nigerians that it remains determined to uphold a merit-based and accessible recruitment process.
