Penske Media Sues Google for ‘hurting’ Publishers

Penske Media Corporation (PMC), the publisher behind Rolling Stone, Variety, Billboard, and several other leading entertainment and lifestyle outlets, has filed a lawsuit against Google and accused the tech giant of harming publishers with its AI-generated news summaries.

In the suit filed in United States federal court, PMC argued that Google’s new AI-powered search feature—which delivers users quick, concise article summaries at the top of search results—directly exploits publishers’ work without fair compensation.

According to the company, the feature reduces website traffic by discouraging readers from clicking through to original stories, stripping publishers of critical advertising and subscription revenue.
