Chief Bode George, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has declared that members unwilling to adhere to the party’s rules and regulations will be expelled. Speaking on Sunday, George revealed that the PDP’s National Executive Council (NEC) is set to make this a key decision at its closed-door meeting on May 27, 2025, to restore the party’s founding principles.
George criticized some PDP politicians for prioritizing personal gain over public welfare, stating, “What is democracy? It’s about managing the resources of the land for the benefit of the people. That is not what they have done now.” He emphasized that the NEC has the authority to expel non-compliant members and urged the party to confront “home truths” to realign with the vision of its founding fathers.
The PDP, expected to serve as a robust opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has been plagued by internal conflicts since the 2023 general elections. Party members have expressed frustration over the PDP’s failure to discipline those openly supporting the APC while remaining in the party. Notably, Nyesom Wike, former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, recently affirmed his commitment to stay in the PDP while working for President Bola Tinubu’s reelection in 2027.
