Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) has hinted that over 500 inmates are on death row in the three correctional centres in the state.
The centres are the Port Harcourt Maximum Security Correctional Centre, the Degema Minimum Security Correctional Centre and the Ahoada Minimum Security Correctional Centre.
The NCS state commandant, Richard Moses Williams, disclosed this during the visit of the state commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dennis Lesor Reuben, to his office in Port Harcourt.
Williams, who further revealed that more than 3150 inmates were being kept in the three correctional facilities, said the situation underscored the importance of inter-agency collaboration.
In his remarks, Reuben stressed the need for cooperation and synergy with sister security agencies to foster a united front in combating criminality and deepening national security architecture. Reuben called for sustained synergy and collaboration in the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, which, of course, includes custodial centres situated across Rivers state.
He reminded his host of their paternity, drawing an illustration of a man with multiple wives, underscoring the existing bond between the two agencies.
