Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has assured Nigerians that the newly formed opposition coalition is battle-ready to confront sabotage, infiltration, and internal rivalry as it prepares to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.
In an interview with Journalist, Malami admitted that political coalitions are often susceptible to betrayal and power struggles. However, he insisted that the opposition alliance is determined to remain united and resilient.
“In any political arrangement, the possibility of infiltration cannot be ruled out,” Malami said. “But our resolve is clear: we shall continue, we shall unite, and we shall overcome whatever challenges arise.”
This statement follows the coalition’s recent decision to adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform. The opposition front includes major political heavyweights such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Minister Rotimi Amaechi.
Malami, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari, acknowledged that crises and competing interests are natural in politics but emphasized the importance of managing them with discipline.
“You can’t eliminate ambition from politics,” he said. “But what matters most is how you manage those ambitions. We are committed to internal cohesion and discipline.”
The growing coalition has sparked widespread attention across Nigeria’s political landscape as it positions itself to mount the strongest challenge yet to the APC’s dominance in 2027.
