The Ogun State Police Command has released Abigeal Nsikak, popularly known as Mirabel on TikTok, to the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development following the rape allegation she made online.
Last Friday, the state police command confirmed the Mirabel’s arrest over allegations that she raised a false alarm of rape, as investigations into the controversial sexual assault claim continued.
The spokesperson for the command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, told reporters that the social media personality was in police custody.
“She is with us now and investigation is ongoing,” Babaseyi said.
When asked whether the TikToker would face prosecution if investigators conclude that her allegation was fabricated, the police spokesperson declined to make a definitive statement, insisting that the outcome of the investigation would determine the next step.
“The facts will tell at the conclusion of our investigation,” he added.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Babaseyi said Mirabel was received at the police station after her claims surfaced on social media and was subsequently taken to a medical facility for examination as part of efforts to verify her allegations.
According to the police, she has continued to cooperate with investigators as due process progresses.
The statement read, “The Ogun State Police Command wishes to provide an update on Abigeal Nsikak, popularly known as Mirabel on TikTok, following the rape allegation she made online.
“Upon her visit to the police station, she was received and taken to a medical facility for necessary examination to verify her claims. She has continued to cooperate with investigators as due process progresses.”
According to the command spokesperson, “in consideration of her welfare and support needs, she has been released to the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development”.
“The Ministry has undertaken responsibility for her care and has assured the Command that she will be made available whenever required as investigations continue,” Babaseyi said.
The command emphasised that the matter was being handled with professionalism, sensitivity and diligence, assuring members of the public that a thorough investigation was ongoing.
Police authorities also cautioned the public against engaging in speculation or spreading unverified information that could jeopardise the investigation.
“The command assures the public that the matter is being handled with professionalism, sensitivity, and diligence,” Babaseyi said.
“Members of the public are urged to refrain from speculation and allow the investigation to run its full course. Further updates will be provided as necessary.”
