Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Adamawa State have arrested a man accused of being a specialist in buying goods from traders and obtaining cash from POS operators with fake bank transfers.
The Suspect, Jeremiah Stephen, said to ply his trade mostly in Michika, a major town in northern Adamawa, as well as in Yola, the state capital, was arrested by the operatives of the Michika Division of NSCDC.
Adamawa State NSCDC Command Public Relations Officer, DSC Amidu Nyako, disclosed on Sunday that Stephen, 24, confessed to swindling people of up to half a million naira in Michika and Yola.
Nyako said the suspect claimed that he was forced into crime by a medical condition.
The NSCDC PRO advised sellers and POS operators to always cross-check any transfer of money into their account before releasing goods or making any cash payment to customers.
He further disclosed that the Adamawa State NSCDC commandant, Ibrahim Mainasara, has directed a thorough investigation and the suspect will be arraigned in court.
