The Northern Youth Assembly has berated the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, over the recent award conferred on the former Chairman of the Pension Tax Reforms Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, by the NBA, Garki Branch.
The group questioned the integrity, ethics and moral values of the NBA in engaging in such defaulting activity.
The Deputy Speaker of the Northern Youth Assembly, Itodo Apeh Godswill, at a press briefing in Abuja on Saturday, scolded the NBA over undue interference, unnecessary meddling, executive overreach, and an abuse of moral authority in the affairs of its Branches.
Itodo Apeh Godswill stated that “for the NBA President to descend into branch-level affairs with threats, suspensions, and public disclaimers, smacks of insecurity, intolerance, and authoritarianism raised serious concern.”
The Youth Assembly expressed that “rather than dwelling on mundane issues, the Association owes the Nigerian public and the legal community a clear account of the ₦300,000,000 reportedly received from the Rivers State Government for the hosting of the NBA Annual General Conference,” adding that the body should operate in line with it’s ethics at all times.
The Northern Youth Assembly declared that Nigerian youth are watching. The Assembly cautioned that selective outrage, moral hypocrisy, and intimidation tactics will no longer be tolerated, whether in politics, law, or civil society.
