Northern Elders Forum Backs State Police, Commends FG

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has expressed confidence that insecurity in the northern region of Nigeria will soon become a thing of the past, pledging support for the establishment of state police if it will help curb the menace.

At an international press conference to announce the maiden edition of the Northern Nigeria Investment and Industrialization Summit, the Forum said the federal government is already addressing the crisis and assured that in less than a year, insecurity will be a matter of history.

On the call for state police, the Forum noted that if created in line with existing laws and regulations, the initiative would be a welcome development capable of dramatically improving security in the region.

Spokesperson of NEF, Prof. Abubakar Jiddere, explained that the Summit scheduled for September 29 and 30, 2025 was jointly organized by the Forum, the 19 northern states, and the New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC).

He said the event has been in development for over 18 months, with the aim of launching a patriotic agenda that strengthens the region’s development drive while creating new opportunities for citizens, Nigeria, and international partners.

The Forum described the summit as the unveiling of a fresh vision, an economic call to action, an appeal to conscience, and a strategic plan to unlock the promise of Northern Nigeria.
