Femi Falana, a human rights lawyer, described the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPCL) decision to increase the pump price of PMS as unlawful.
Speaking during an urgent National Executive Council meeting of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) meeting in Abuja.
According to Mr. Falana, despite being a limited liability business, NNPCL lacks the legal authority to raise the price of petroleum.
He asked the federal government to start again in order to come up with other solutions to the issue, one of which, in his opinion, would require addressing Nigeria’s economy’s dollarization.
Falana also said Nigerians will challenge the decision, adding, however, that the solution to the fuel problem will be both legal and political.
