Barely twenty four hours after arresting investigative journalist Fisayo Soyombo, had Operatives of the 6 Division Nigerian Army released the journalist after media outcry. The Army Acting Deputy Director of the 6 Division Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah made this known while reacting to reports in the social media space blaming the military over the arrest.
According to the military, the journalist was arrested at the crime scene of an illegal refinery site in Port Harcourt during a raid where other suspects were arrested. He stressed that the Nigerian Army does not engage with the purveyors of falsehoods, saying intelligence gathering on the activities of a notorious gang involved in pipeline vandalism led to the uncovering of the site where the journalist was arrested.
The Nigerian Army assures the public of its dedication to upholding security and welcomes constructive engagements to foster understanding and transparency.
Meanwhile, Fisayo Soyombo on Saturday morning confirmed his release from the custody of the Nigerian Army after spending three days in their custody.
