Nigeria to Hold Special FEC Session in Honor of Late Former President Buhari

The Nigerian Presidency has scheduled a special session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to honor the late former President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, July 17, 2025. The announcement was made by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga via a statement on his X account on Wednesday.

According to Onanuga, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will lead the session, which is set to commence at 5:00 PM, to pay tributes to the departed leader. “A special session of the Federal Executive Council in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari will be held on Thursday, 17 July, from 5pm. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will lead the session of tributes for the departed leader,” the statement read.

The special FEC session was initially planned for Monday but was postponed by the Federal Government. Former President Buhari, who passed away on Sunday at the London Clinic, was laid to rest in a state-wide burial ceremony in his hometown of Daura on Tuesday.

The session is expected to reflect on Buhari’s legacy and contributions to Nigeria during his tenure as president. Further details on the proceedings are yet to be disclosed.
