Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has directed the immediate withdrawal of Police Mobile Force (PMF) officers from VIP escort and guard duties, citing the misuse of personnel in non-core roles. The announcement was made Tuesday by Nigeria Police Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi as part of a broader reorganization of the PMF.
In a statement, the IGP expressed concern that assigning mobile police to private individuals and VIPs has weakened the unit’s effectiveness. To address this, Egbetokun introduced measures including the redeployment of PMF officers from unauthorized assignments, quarterly training on ethics and professionalism, and maintaining combat-ready units for rapid tactical response.
The IGP also emphasized accountability, stating that PMF Commanders will be responsible for their personnel’s conduct. He urged commanders to lead through regular training, inspections, and mentorship to ensure discipline, respect for human rights, and operational excellence.
