The Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, to investigate the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has called for memoranda from members of the public as it commences its inaugural sitting.
The 11-member commission, constituted by the state government to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths, is expected to begin its proceedings tomorrow in Minna.
In a statement, the secretary of the commission, Mohammed Aliyu Kutigi, Esq., invited members of the public and other interested parties to submit memoranda to the panel.
He said the inaugural sitting would commence in the morning at the Teachers Professional Institute, along F.F. Layout, by Tayi Junction, Minna, Niger State.
The commission is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the 37 miners while in NSCDC custody and receive relevant submissions from individuals and organisations with information that could assist its investigation.
Details of the proceedings are expected to emerge as the commission begins its sitting.
