Justice Sie-A-Nyene Gyapay Yuoh has been named the new chief justice by the Liberian senate.
Francis Saye Korkpor, who retired at the age of 70 and left the service, is replaced by her.
Justice Yuoh becomes the third female chief justice and the first since 2003.
One of the two female judges on the Supreme Court at the time was Justice Yuoh.
Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, a male criminal court judge, has been nominated to take her place on the bench.
Frances Johnson Allison and Gloria Musu Scott were Liberia’s previous two female chief justices.
