The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted more than 1.3 million pills and capsules of tramadol and other opioids, alongside about 6,000kg of cannabis, in operations across eight states and the Federal Capital Territory, with a combined street value exceeding ₦3.4 billion.
A major seizure involved 1,200 parcels of Canadian Loud weighing 603.75kg and valued at about ₦1.81 billion. The consignment was intercepted at Tin-Can Island Port in Lagos after arriving from Montreal, Canada, on September 12.
In Delta State, NDLEA operatives arrested 49-year-old Innocent Ekpe along the Benin–Onitsha Expressway in Asaba with 292.48kg of skunk concealed in a Toyota Sienna bus. The agency said Ekpe allegedly impersonated a Deputy Superintendent of Police using a forged identification card to evade checkpoints. A 39-year-old alleged accomplice, Nduka Joseph, was also arrested.
The operations also covered Edo, Niger, Ondo, Gombe, Imo, Lagos and the FCT. In Edo, a mechanic, Matthew Ossai, was arrested at an auto-repair workshop where NDLEA said 48kg of Canadian Loud and 152g of methamphetamine were recovered.
The agency said other seizures included over one million tramadol tablets and capsules, cannabis, codeine syrup, methamphetamine and other illicit substances.
