Dr Jumoke Oduwole is the Special Adviser to the President of Nigeria on Ease of Doing Business and pioneer Executive Secretary of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), chaired by the Vice President. The PEBEC supports ministries, departments and agencies on reforms being implemented across the federal, legislative and judicial arms of government. In addition, she and her team work with all state governments, the FCT, and most recently AMAC, on ease of doing business interventions aimed at enabling micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to start and grow their businesses.

Some of the key reforms implemented by the PEBEC in collaboration with relevant stakeholders over the last seven years include: the re-enactment of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, the recent enactment of the Business Facilitation Act (BFA) 2022, the publication of the Insolvency Regulations 2022, registration of a company within 24 hours with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) companies registration portal, introduction of electronic filing and payment of federal taxes at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), the implementation of the online registration portal for the registration of food and drugs by the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the legislative backing of the Collateral Registry of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) which allows MSMEs to access credit with movable property.

Dr Oduwole is on loan to the federal government from the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos. Prior to her career in academia, she worked in Investment Banking and Corporate Banking in Nigeria.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Lagos and an LL.M from Cambridge University, UK where she was a DFID-Cambridge Commonwealth Trust Scholar. In addition, she holds a master’s degree in International Legal Studies and as a doctorate in International Trade and Development from Stanford Law School, USA.

She is extremely passionate about nation building and has mentored Nigerian youth for over two decades.
