The Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum is set to hold her 3rd Annual Conference on 30th-31st March in Abuja. The Conference Planning Committee made this known during a Press Briefing which held recently.
The Chairperson of the Forum, Mrs Chinyere Okorocha gave a background of the Forum and its activities. She noted that the NBA Women Forum, which is an arm of the Nigerian Bar Association, was set up to address matters affecting the well-being of the Nigerian female lawyer, empowering female lawyers for success through advocacy, mentorship, organising workshops and conferences on gender issues, leadership, personal development, career growth, work-life balance, et cetera.
The Conference Planning Committee Chair, Dr Foluke Dada stated that the delegates would be welcomed with a Pre-Conference Cocktail on the 29th of March while the Conference commences on the 30th of March. She gave an outline of the Conference Sessions with interesting topics on Accelerating women’s career through technology; Equity Unveiled; Technological Transformation; and others. Dada noted that in furtherance of the tech theme, there would be a training on data protection and privacy on the second day of the conference.
Ifeoma Ben, the Deputy Head of the Fundraising Committee of the Conference, gave highlights of the registration and logistics plans for the Conference, noting that the registration can be done online at the Forum’s website- www.nbawomenforum.org.ng. as well as on-site. She expressed excitement at the large turn out for registration and hinted that delegates from all over the country are expected to be in attendance. On logistics, she assured conferees of partnership with airlines and availability of buses to pick up Conferees from the airport to the conference venue, stating that the Local Organising Committee has put in a lot of work to ensure Conferees are very comfortable. She also expressed appreciation for financial support from law firms and other organisations, and also for strategic partnerships from International organisations.
Onyinye Ukaegbu, the head of the Media/Publicity Subcommittee called on all female lawyers in Nigeria to register as members of NBAWF and stated the benefits of the membership of the Forum such as opportunity to be listed in the directory of female lawyers in Nigeria, access to professional platforms for global reach, premium mentoring opportunity from very experienced lawyers, peer to peer networking, gender support against discrimination, career growth and development opportunity, and lots more.
The theme of the Conference – “Tech Her In: Innovating for Gender Equity” mirrors the global theme of the International Women’s Day 2023 – DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality.
