NBA Urges Compliance with Legal Practitioners’ Remuneration Order 2023

Dear Learned Chairmen,

We write to draw your attention to the Legal Practitioners’ Remuneration Order 2023 (LPRO 2023), which was enacted to regulate the professional fees chargeable by legal practitioners in Nigeria. The Order sets out the minimum fees for legal services across various practice areas, ensuring that lawyers are fairly compensated for their work while upholding professional standards.

As key stakeholders in the legal profession, all our members must be aware of and comply with the provisions of the LPRO 2023. The enforcement of this Order is crucial to addressing the challenges of underpricing, professional undervaluation, and unethical fee arrangements, which have negatively impacted the legal profession.

Given the foregoing, we kindly request that you bring this Order to the attention of your branch members through appropriate channels, including branch meetings, circulars, and training sessions. Additionally, we encourage branches to organize sensitization programmes to educate members on the provisions and implications of the Order.

For ease of reference, a copy of the Legal Practitioners’ Remuneration Order 2023 is attached to this letter. Kindly ensure widespread circulation within your branch to foster compliance and enforcement.

Should you require further clarification on the implications of this Order, kindly contact the NBA Remuneration Committee at nbaremuneration@nigerianbar.org.ng or Rachael Princewill on 0817 815 6933.

Thank you for your continued leadership and cooperation in advancing the welfare of our members and upholding the integrity of the legal profession.

Please accept the assurance of our highest professional regards.

Yours faithfully
