PURSUANT TO ARTICLE XII AND ARTICLE XIII OF “THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION UNIFORM BYE-LAWS FOR SECTIONS” AS CONTAINED IN PART II OF THE THIRD SCHEDULE TO THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION CONSTITUTION 2021
PART A: ELECTION OF OFFICERS AND OTHER ELECTED MEMBERS OF THE SECTION
The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) appointed to conduct the
(a) Election of Officers of the Section
(b) Members of the Executive Committee of the Section
hereby issues this Notice of Election as follows:
That election of Officers of the Section and other elected members of the Executive Committee of the Section shall take place during the Biennial General Meeting (BGM) of the Section on Friday, June 23, 2023 and in the manner set out below.
The offices for which members will be eligible to contest on the basis of Article XII and Article XIII of “THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION UNIFORM BYE-LAWS FOR SECTIONS” as contained in Part II of the Third Schedule of the Nigerian Bar Association Constitution 2021 are as appearing hereunder:
1) Chair
2) Vice Chair
3) Secretary
4) Financial Secretary
5) Treasurer
6) Assistant Secretary
7) Member of the Executive Committee (5 Nos)
PART B: ELIGIBILITY
Pursuant to Article XIII of “THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION UNIFORM BYE-LAWS FOR SECTIONS” as contained in Part II of the Third Schedule of the Nigerian Bar Association Constitution 2021
(a) No person who is not a member of the Section shall be eligible for election as an Officer of the Section or as an elected member of the Executive Committee of the Section.
(b) To be eligible to stand for election as an Officer of the Section or as an elected member of the Executive Committee of the Section, a member shall be validly nominated and shall be a financial member of the Section and shall have paid his/her Section annual dues for the two (2) years preceding the election.
Provided that for the offices of Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Secretary of the Section, he/she shall have served in the Executive Committee of the Section for not less than two (2) years.
(c) A member shall be validly nominated in writing by two members of the Section who are eligible to vote as provided for in these By-Laws;
(d) To be eligible to vote, a member shall be a financial member of the Section and shall have paid his/her Section Annual Dues for the election year not later than 30 days before the date of the election.
PART C: NOMINATION FORMS
(i) The Expression of Interest (EOI) and Nomination Forms are available for download and shall also be available via other online platforms from 00:01 hours on Sunday, June 18, 2023.
(ii) Submission of completed Expression of Interest and Nomination forms as well as accompanying documents shall CLOSE at 15:00 hours on Wednesday, 21st June, 2023.
(iv) All duly completed Expression of Interest and Nomination forms as well as accompanying documents should be sent via email to nbaspideleco@gmail.com not later than 15:00 hours on Wednesday, 21st June, 2023.
(vi) Once submitted, the forms and accompanying documents cannot be retrieved.
PART D: TIME TABLE FOR THE ELECTION
1. Issuance of guidelines and election timetable, publication of the list of eligible voters, and call for nominations: Sunday, 18th June 2023
2. Deadline for submission of EOI/Nominations/Screening of nominees: Wednesday, 21st June, 2023
3. Publication of list of cleared candidates: Wednesday, June 21, 2023
4. Appeals on disqualification: Thursday, June 22, 2023
5. NBA-SPIDEL Election: Friday, June 23, 2023
6. Collation, Assessment and Announcement of Results: Friday, June 23, 2023
7. Swearing-in of new Executive Committee: Friday, June 23, 2023
PART E: GUIDELINES FOR THE ELECTION
The Guidelines for the Election and List of Financial Members will be published subsequently.
