The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) has reminded potential delegates that the Early Bird registration window for its eagerly awaited 2026 Annual Conference will end today, Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
It is recalled that the section had extended the Early Bird window by two weeks due to clamour by potential conferees and other stakeholders.
A statement by the Chairman of the NBA-SPIDEL 2026 Annual Conference Planning Committee (CPC), Sir Ejike Ezenwa (SAN), had noted that the extension was “in response to the high interest shown by participants whose registration could not be concluded and is also aimed at giving participants more time to register at the discounted rate.”
Also, discounted Group Registration package has been added to the bouquet of benefits for both members and non-members.
Aside from the substantial Early Bird discount that awaits potential delegates and the repertoire of live issues to be dissected by leading activists and stakeholders, delegates would have an opportunity to embark on a guided tour of some experiential tourist attractions in Abia State.
The Annual Conference, which is the premier gathering of key stakeholders in the public interest and development sectors, will hold at the world-class International Conference Centre, Umuahia, Abia State from November 9 to November 13, 2026.
Meanwhile, the section recently held a well-attended Press Conference in Abuja to spotlight the theme of the conference as well as other components of the annual event.
Announcing the 2026 Annual Conference, the Chair of NBA-SPIDEL, Associate Professor Uju Agomoh, said the gathering would not be another professional meeting where lawyers debate problems and return to their offices without a plan for what follows.
The four-day conference, scheduled for November 9 to 13 at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, Abia State, will be held under the theme, “In Public Interest: Advancing Justice, Democracy and Development.” The Abia State Government is co-hosting the event.
Agomoh said the choice of theme reflects SPIDEL’s view that the legal profession cannot separate itself from the conditions under which Nigerians encounter the state, the courts, the police, correctional institutions and other public authorities.
“Law must serve the public interest,” she said, stressing that justice must be accessible, democratic institutions protected and development anchored in the rule of law.
The conference agenda is wide-ranging. It includes access to justice, public-interest litigation, constitutionalism, human rights, administration of justice, non-custodial measures, oversight of detention facilities, deaths in custody, policing and community safety, corruption, terrorism financing, legal aid, inclusion and the future of public-interest law in Nigeria.
