I was pleased to welcome our esteemed colleagues to the NBA–RoLAC Sensitisation Event on the 2023 Rules of Professional Conduct, which commenced yesterday, February 3rd, and successfully concluded today, February 4th, 2025, in Abuja.
I appreciate the sacrifices made by all participants to be part of this important event. Your commitment to professional ethics and continuous learning reflects our shared dedication to strengthening the legal profession.

The 2023 RPC introduces significant changes that directly impact our practice, particularly in the area of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) compliance. Last year’s risk assessment highlighted the urgent need for ongoing training in this field. As legal practitioners, we have a duty to ensure compliance while safeguarding the independence of the Bar.

The NBA remains committed to upholding financial regulations without compromising our fundamental right to self-regulation. Our profession thrives on independence, and we must be resolute in preserving this core principle.

I encourage all who participated to apply the knowledge gained and continue to uphold the highest ethical standards in their practice. The future of our profession depends on our ability to self-regulate and maintain integrity. Together, we will continue to lead by example, strengthening professionalism and upholding the rule of law.

Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN
