In a significant move to strengthen legal ethics and compliance, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Port Harcourt Branch will on Friday, 18 July 2025, hold a special training for legal professionals focused on the Rules of Professional Conduct (RPC) and Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT). The event is scheduled to take place at the NBA House in Port Harcourt and will be held in a hybrid format to accommodate both physical and virtual participants.
The training is aimed at equipping lawyers with up-to-date knowledge of professional standards and the critical role of legal practitioners in the fight against financial crimes. As issues of money laundering and terrorism financing continue to evolve, legal practitioners are increasingly required to demonstrate not only competence but also vigilance and ethical integrity in their practice. The session promises to provide valuable insights into the intersection of law, ethics, and regulatory compliance.
Renowned legal scholar and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prof Ernest Ojukwu SAN, will serve as one of the facilitators, bringing his wealth of experience in legal education and ethics. Joining him is Miannaya Essien SAN, a respected authority in corporate and commercial law, known for her contributions to legal reform and professional development. Their combined expertise is expected to deliver a robust and practical training session that addresses both theoretical and real-world challenges.
The NBA Port Harcourt Branch, under its current leadership, continues to prioritize continuous legal education and ethical practice among its members. Friday’s event reflects a broader commitment by the NBA to enhance the capacity of lawyers in addressing global compliance standards while maintaining the core values of the legal profession. Participants are encouraged to take full advantage of the hybrid model to engage actively and broaden their understanding of the responsibilities that come with legal practice in today’s complex financial landscape.
