The Nigerian Bar Association, Lagos Branch, welcomed a new generation of lawyers at the 2026 New Wigs Induction Programme, held at Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors, PAS World Centre, Lekki, Lagos.
The New Wigs Induction program was themed around helping newly called lawyers understand the Bar and navigate the realities of legal practice, the programme brought together Branch leaders and accomplished practitioners from private practice, in-house counsel, government service and international practice for a day of insightful conversations, practical guidance and meaningful networking.
Mrs. Uchenna Ogunedo Akingbade, encouraged the new wigs to embrace the nobility of the legal profession, uphold the highest standards of ethics and integrity, build meaningful professional relationships, and actively participate in the activities of the Branch. She also urged them to nurture their professional relationships, avoid burning bridges, and conduct themselves in a manner that would contribute positively to their growth and success in the profession.
The “NBA and You” session, facilitated by Kelechukwu Uzoka, Secretary, NBA Lagos Branch, and Moshood Abiola, provided the new wigs with a practical introduction to the NBA and the activities of the Lagos Branch, while the “YLF and You” session, led by Gideon Edem, Chairman, Young Lawyers Forum, highlighted the importance of engagement, mentorship and participation in the young lawyers’ community.
A major highlight of the programme was the career-focused panel discussion, “Different Paths, One Profession: Building a Successful Legal Career,” moderated by Oghenemega Igbru and coordinated by Linda Daramola. The panel featured Adeleke Alex-Adedipe, Abuchi Ngene, Osiri Ndukwe, Ayoola Olusunmbola and Adebimpe Bada, who shared practical insights from their experiences across private practice, development finance, technology and intellectual property, business operations and government service.
The programme also featured a second career session, “Beyond the Wig: Navigating Your Path to a Successful Legal Career,” moderated by Josephine Ogbonna and coordinated by Linda Daramola. The panel brought together Sunday Maji, Emmanuel Agidi, Joshua Abe, Gloria George and Jubril Kareem, offering the new wigs practical perspectives on career development, professional growth, workplace relationships and navigating different pathways within the legal profession.
The diversity of the speakers — including perspectives from international practice in the United States, private practice, in-house counsel and government service — underscored the breadth of opportunities available to young lawyers and the many directions a legal career can take.
Beyond the formal sessions, the programme created valuable opportunities for networking and connection, allowing the new wigs to engage directly with senior members of the Bar, experienced practitioners and fellow young lawyers.
As the second edition of the New Wigs Induction Programme, the initiative reinforces NBA Lagos Branch’s commitment to ensuring that newly called lawyers are not merely welcomed into the profession but are equipped, connected and encouraged to thrive.
Special appreciation goes to *Mr. Christian Aniukwu, Chairman*, New Wigs Induction & Placement Committee, for his leadership, dedication and commitment to delivering a memorable and impactful induction programme.
The message from the day was clear: your Call to Bar is an achievement, but your journey in the profession has only just begun.
