On April 17, 2025, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ilorin Branch through a petition written by the Secretary of Branch, Olayinka Dauda Jimoh, to the Police regarding some individuals who impersonated Imam Fulani to prepare fraudulent agreements. Following an investigation by the police, four suspects were apprehended and subsequently charged to court.
On April 22, 2025, the four defendants were arraigned before the Upper Area Court, Ilorin.
In a short ruling delivered by Judge Sunday Adeniyi, two of the defendants were granted bail, while the remaining two were remanded at the Correctional Service in Oke Kura, Ilorin. The case has been adjourned until May 5, 2025 for further mention
Despite intense pressure from the defendants on the NBA Chairman, SMH Kosemani Esq. and the Chairman of the Land Instrument Committee, Prof Ismail Adua Mustapha, to withdraw the petition. Both chairmen remained resolute, emphasizing the importance of proceeding with the prosecution of the Defendants.
The NBA has reassured its members of its dedication to maintaining the integrity of the association and has vowed to continue its efforts to sanitize the legal profession. The NBA remains committed to upholding the sanctity of the profession and will not compromise its standards. This incident underscores the NBA’s relentless pursuit of justice and its unwavering stance against any form of malpractice within the legal community.
