The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Ilorin branch, in Kwara State, has produced its first female Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
The Ekiti State-born Barrister Ronke Adeyemi, who is a member of Ilorin branch of the NBA, was among the latest set of lawyers inaugurated as SANs on Monday by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
Adeyemi thus becomes the first resident female legal practitioner in Ilorin and a member of the Ilorin branch of the NBA to be so honoured in the over 50 years of the existence of the branch.
A product of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Adeyemi was called to Bar in 1993 and has been practising in Ilorin since 1995.
She was the vice chairman of NBA, Ilorin branch, from 2007 to 2009 and the chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Kwara State branch, from 2014 to 2017.
She also served as a member of the Judicial Panel of Enquiry on the EndSARS protests in 2020 and was a member of the national executive committee (NEC) of the NBA between 2020 and 2022.
Adeyemi is currently the President of the Kwara Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA) and also the first female to occupy such position in the state.
