A series of orientation trainings will be held for newly qualified members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), tentatively dubbed the Hand-Holding Series 2023” (the “Series”), designed to provide enlightenment to persons called to the Nigerian Bar in July and November 2022 on key thematic issues: Getting Started in the Legal Profession; Deciding on a Career Path; and Fundamentals of Practice Areas in Nigeria.
The aim of the Series will be to plug a knowledge gap that exists for new entrants into the legal profession, who like other young professionals must contend with social and technical hurdles as they begin their careers. Some of these hurdles include deficiencies from the educational system that may have left new professionals insufficiently prepared for the world of work they are walking into.
Indeed, attempting to map out paths to a successful career in the legal profession, identifying the best start-points and figuring out individual branding in a highly competitive environment with limited opportunities can be daunting for newly qualified lawyers.
