NBA CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE INTERVENTION AS LAWYERS TRAVELLING TO AGC 2026 REMAIN STRANDED ON OHARA–SAPELE ROAD

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has received reports that lawyers and other travellers proceeding to Port Harcourt for the 2026 NBA Annual General Conference (AGC) have remained stranded on the Oghara–Sapele Road following an obstruction caused by two trucks blocking the roadway.

According to the reports received, the affected travellers have been stranded since yesterday, resulting in significant hardship, delays and uncertainty for lawyers and other road users making their way to Port Harcourt for the Conference.

The NBA is deeply concerned about the safety, welfare and wellbeing of all affected travellers. We therefore call for the immediate intervention of the Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Nigeria Police Force (Traffic Section) to urgently clear the obstruction and restore the free flow of traffic.

We particularly urge the relevant agencies to treat the situation as an emergency, given the prolonged period for which travellers have remained stranded and the potential risks to their safety and security.

The NBA further calls on all relevant authorities to deploy the necessary personnel and resources without further delay to resolve the situation and ensure the safe and unhindered movement of lawyers and other travellers proceeding to the 2026 NBA Annual General Conference.

The NBA appreciates the efforts of all agencies and personnel working to facilitate safe travel and urges prompt action to bring the situation to an immediate resolution.
