Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has alleged that her privileges as a senator have been consistently denied since her first clash with Senate President Godswill Akpabio. This revelation came after a heated exchange between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary session, sparked by her refusal to use a newly allocated seat.
Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed she has been pulled out of numerous international activities by the Senate leadership, including a United Nations event she was nominated for. She stated that her name was struck out, citing that she would not be promoted in any international event. As a result, Akpoti-Uduaghan has been self-sponsoring her attendance at events since last year.
The senator’s outburst was triggered by the reassignment of her seat, which she felt was a deliberate attempt to silence her. Akpabio, however, maintained that the reassignment was necessary due to changes in the Senate’s composition. The incident highlights the ongoing tension between Akpoti-Uduaghan and the Senate leadership, with the senator insisting that she be allowed to work without interference.
