The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest (Zone D) has felicitated the former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on emerging as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The national student body congratulated the APC flagbearer in a statement co-signed by Adegboye Emmanuel Olatunji, Alao John, and Awoyinka Opeoluwa, the Coordinator, Deputy Coordinator, and the Public Relations Officer of Southwest (Zone D) respectively.
NANS, in the statement, said the election of Tinubu is proof of the confidence of APC delegates in his governance, urging Nigerians to adopt his victory irrespective of their different political parties.
The statement also encouraged northern Nigerians to support the former governor in attaining the position of President in the 2023 general election.
“His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola-Ahmed Tinubu was a former Governor of Lagos State (1999-2007). His election is a confidence that the delegates of the All Progressive Congress have in his programme of governance, which is hinged on job creation, and diversification of the economy, particularly the creation of modern Lagos during his tenure as the Lagos State Governor.
“At a critical time like this, all we need in Nigeria is unity. The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students Southwest (Zone D) appeal to all aggrieved southerners, regardless of their different political association or Parties. We should adopt the victory of His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola-Ahmed Tinubu (BAT) as a collective one and as well wike hand in hand to bring a Southerner as the 16th President of Nigerian come 2023.
“We also charge our Norther brothers and sisters to please help in supporting His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola-Ahmed Tinubu (BAT) in attaining the position of the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, come 2023 General Election,” the statement read.
The leadership of NANS also lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for the free and credible primary election, adding that Senator Tinubu’s victory “is a magnanimous victory and all Nigerian Students of over Twenty million, two hundred and seventy-four across the length and breadth of Southwest Nigeria are elated and proud of his emergence.”
The student body expressed its pain at the problems in the education sector of the country, pleading with President Buhari to look into them and find lasting solutions, especially the ASUU strike.
“We equally use this medium to beg His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to please look critically into the problem facing the educational sector of the country, particularly the ASUU Strike.
“Our future is wasting, we want to go back to school. We beg the President, being the father of the Nation, to help bring a lasting solution to this educational crisis.”
The APC held its special national convention on Tuesday, June 7 at Eagle Square, Abuja where Bola Ahmed Tinubu was elected as the party’s flagbearer for the 2023 presidential election.
