N4bn Theft: Federal High Court Fixes Date for Ruling on Obiano’s Motion

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has fixed April 18th, 2024, for ruling on an application filed by the immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Willy Obaino.

Obiano had in a motion dated March 3rd, challenged the authority of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate and try him.

The former Governor also urged the court to quash the charges against him, adding that the court lacked the requisite jurisdiction to entertain issues on accountability for security votes funds.

At the Wednesday proceedings, Counsel for the defendant, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN) adopted his processes and urged the court to grant his client’s prayers.

On his part, the EFCC’s counsel, Sylvanus Tahir, adopted all the processes before the court and further prayed the court to dismissed the defendant’s application. He submitted that security votes could be probed when misappropriated.

adjourned till April 18, 2024 for ruling on the motion filed by the defendant.

Obiano, who was arraigned on January 24th, 2024 is standing trial on nine charges bordering on N4bn theft.
