N2.5bn Fraud: Ogun Lawmaker Suspended For Dragging Speaker To EFCC

The Ogun State House of Assembly, on Tuesday suspended sitting legislator and former deputy speaker Dare Kadiri indefinitely.

Solomon Osho (Remo North) and Kadiri (Ijebu North II constituency) were both suspended for “breach of the assembly’s rights and privileges.”

Kadiri had submitted a petition, and the EFCC is currently trying Olakunle Oluomo for allegedly defrauding the government of N2.5 billion.

Oluomo was charged last Tuesday in a Federal High Court in Lagos with misappropriating N2.5 billion that belonged to the assembly.

The Speaker was accompanied in his arrest by the Clerk of the House, Taiwo Adeyemo, and the Director of Finance, Oladayo Samuel.

However, the court granted bail to the trio. Kadiri was impeached as deputy speaker due to alleged alleged gross misconduct in March 2021.

At Tuesday’s sitting, Oluomo announced the suspension of the two lawmakers.

The speaker explained that the lawmakers violated Section 17 “of the legislative house power and privileges.”

Kadiri could not be reached for his reaction, but Osho said the suspension followed due process.

“I didn’t commit any offense; I don’t consider the suspension as anything tangible. No due process was followed; I was not given a fair hearing. The speaker just came and announced that two honourable members are being suspended until further notice without reading out the charges or the offences committed,” he said.
