N2.4bn Fraud: Ex-NEXIM Bank MD Robert Orya Jailed 490 Years

A Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court sitting in Abuja has sentenced a former Managing Director of the Nigerian Export-Import, NEXIM, Bank, Robert Orya, to 490 years in prison.

Orya was convicted on Thursday, February 5, after being found guilty of multiple fraud-related charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The former NEXIM boss, who headed the bank between 2011 and 2016, was prosecuted by EFCC counsel, Samuel Ugwuegbulam, over allegations involving the misappropriation of N2.4 billion.

In his judgment, Justice F. E. Messiri convicted Orya on all 49 counts and sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment on each count.

The court, however, ordered that all the sentences run concurrently.
