MULAN Executives Visit NBA President, Pledges Support

The leadership of the Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN), led by its President, Saidu Muhammad Tundunwada, Esq., on Monday, 23rd September 2023 paid a courtesy visit to the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN. The visit, which took place at the NBA Secretariat, was an opportunity for MULAN to formally congratulate the NBA President on his victory at the polls and discuss key issues concerning the legal profession.

Speaking during the visit, Tundunwada, expressed heartfelt congratulations to Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN pledging the association’s loyalty and support to his administration. He praised the NBA President for his overwhelming victory at the polls, stating, “We have confidence that you will succeed, going by the mandate given to you by lawyers, and we will continue to pray for your success.”

MULAN emphasized the importance of Osigwe fulfilling the promises made in his manifesto, noting that they would hold him accountable to his outlined goals. The association expressed optimism that his leadership would foster a proactive and inclusive Bar, ensuring that the legal profession thrives under his administration.

One of the key concerns raised by the MULAN executives was the need for a designated prayer space at the NBA Secretariat for Muslim lawyers. They requested that this consideration be made to accommodate the religious needs of their members and promote inclusivity within the profession.

Other members of the MULAN Executive Committee present at the meeting included Akinwale Akinlabi, PhD (Secretary General), Ahmed Loko, Esq. (Welfare Secretary), Abdulrahman Ahmad Paiko, Esq. (2nd Assistant Secretary General), Hajiya Hauwa Abbas (Assistant Financial Secretary), and Ayuba Jabaje, PhD (Auditor General).

In his response, Osigwe warmly welcomed the MULAN delegation and expressed appreciation for their visit and support. He reassured them that their concerns, particularly regarding the prayer space at the NBA Secretariat, would be taken into consideration. Osigwe also emphasized the importance of working together to ensure that the NBA remains a platform for unity, professional growth, and the advancement of justice in Nigeria.

National Officers of the NBA present at the meeting included Zainab Garba, Bridget Edokwe, Auta Nyada, and Blessing Poromon. The meeting ended on a positive note, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment within the legal profession.
