In a significant development for the upcoming Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) presidential election, Muhammad Dele Belgore, SAN, has officially endorsed Tobenna Erojikwe for the position of NBA President.
Belgore, a highly respected Senior Advocate of Nigeria, emphasised the critical timing of this election in his endorsement. He stated, “NBA needs a president at this difficult time in our nation’s history who has a positive, dynamic, and forward-looking approach to the interests of lawyers and the legal profession.”
The Senior Advocate highlighted Erojikwe’s leadership of the NBA Institute of Continuing Legal Education (NBA-ICLE) as evidence of these qualities. Belgore noted, “Tobenna has demonstrated these attributes in his leadership of the NBA-ICLE.”
A key point in Belgore’s endorsement was Erojikwe’s ability to connect with young lawyers. He remarked, “His ability to connect with young lawyers, who are the majority and, indeed, the future of the Bar, makes a very strong case for him to be the next NBA president.”
Belgore also praised Erojikwe’s capacity to not only generate ideas but also to implement them effectively. He stated, “You can have ideas, but if you cannot carry people along to buy into those ideas, the ideas fall flat. Tobenna has both the ideas and the people, a combination the NBA badly needs at this time.”
The endorsement concluded with a strong call to action from Belgore: “For these reasons, I support and urge our colleagues to vote for Tobenna Erojikwe as our next president of the NBA.”
This endorsement from a Senior Advocate of Nigeria adds significant weight to Erojikwe’s campaign. It underscores his appeal across different generations of lawyers and his potential to lead the NBA during challenging times. As the election approaches, Belgore’s support is likely to influence many voters within the legal community.
