The military has assured of intense operations to counter insecurity in Plateau State, North Central Nigeria.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on a courtesy visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to restoring enduring peace and security on the Plateau and across the country.
The Chief of Army Staff, in a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, visited the Government House, Jos, in extension of his operational and familiarisation tour of Army formations in the state.
Lieutenant General Shaibu commended the Plateau State Government for sustained support to the Nigerian Army, particularly, the Armoured Corps, describing Plateau State as a strategic partner and the proud home of the corps.
He noted that although security challenges on the Plateau are complex, they remain surmountable through sustained collaboration, intelligence sharing and the collective efforts of all stakeholders.
The Army Chief assured that the Nigerian Army would continue to deploy its personnel and resources professionally to mitigate security threats and ensure the protection of lives and property, expressing confidence that lasting peace on the Plateau is achievable.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang congratulated Lieutenant General Shaibu on his appointment as the 25th Chief of Army Staff and wished him a successful tenure.
The governor praised the sacrifices, professionalism and gallantry of Nigerian Army personnel nationwide, noting that despite multiple deployments across the country, the Army has continued to rise to its responsibilities.
Governor Mutfwang, particularly, commended troops under Operation Enduring Peace for their proactive efforts, which ensured peaceful Christmas and New Year celebrations in Plateau State.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Plateau State Government to supporting both kinetic and non-kinetic operations, while calling for sustained collaboration to address remaining security challenges in parts of the state.
The Chief of Army Staff also paid homage to the Gbong Gwom Jos, His Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, assuring him of the troops’ resolve to fully restore peace on the Plateau.
The traditional ruler appreciated the visit and pledged to continue mobilising the youth and communities to sustain and build on the peace achieved so far.
