Meet Our Speaker: Cordelia Uwuma Eke — The Phenomenal Woman Conference 2.0

The Phenomenal Woman Conference 2.0 is pleased to feature Mrs. Cordelia Uwuma Eke, a distinguished legal practitioner, accomplished leader, and passionate advocate for women’s advancement in the legal profession.

Mrs. Eke is a seasoned lawyer with over three decades of experience in active legal practice across both the private and public sectors. She currently serves as a Director in the Rivers State Ministry of Justice, where she continues to contribute significantly to the administration of justice and the development of legal practice.

She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Rivers State University and a Master of Laws in Public International Law from the University of Kent, Canterbury, United Kingdom, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1995. Over the years, she has developed expertise in Criminal Justice, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Litigation, and Gender Rights Advocacy. She is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators and a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants, reflecting her commitment to professional excellence and conflict resolution.

Beyond her legal practice, Mrs. Eke has demonstrated remarkable leadership within the Nigerian legal community. She currently serves as the first female Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Port Harcourt Branch, one of the most prominent and competitive branches of the Bar. She previously made history as the first female Secretary of the NBA Port Harcourt Branch and has held several influential positions across professional bodies within the legal profession.

Her contributions extend across numerous professional and women-focused organizations. She has served as South-South Zonal Coordinator of the African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) Nigeria and was the pioneer Coordinator of AWLA Rivers State Branch. She has also been actively involved in organizations such as the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) and the NBA Women Forum, where she continues to mentor young lawyers and support women aspiring to leadership roles.

Mrs. Eke is also a published author, known for her book Criminal Justice in Nigeria: A Practical Guide, alongside several legal publications and editorial contributions. Her thought leadership and commitment to professional development have made her a respected voice in the legal community.

A strong advocate for women and children’s rights, Mrs. Eke has consistently worked to build bridges among female lawyer associations, promoting sisterhood, mentorship, and leadership development within the profession.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the legal profession and society, she has received several prestigious awards, including recognition among the Top 100 Female SHID Lawyers in Sub-Saharan Africa (2023) and the Best NBA Chairman in the Niger Delta Region Award (2024).
