The Medical and Dental Practitioners Investigating Panel (MDPIP) has formally indicted the Medical Doctor, Joseph Aliyu Yahaya involved in the management of the late Mrs Akudo Lovelyn John, for misconduct in a professional respect.
The MDPIP is a statutory body created under Section 15 of the Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Act and charged among other things with the responsibility of conducting a preliminary investigation into any case where it is alleged that a registered person has misbehaved in his capacity as a medical practitioner or dental surgeon, or should for any other reason be the subject of proceedings before the Disciplinary Tribunal.
Recall that the husband of the Deceased, Justice U. John, Esq. had petitioned the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) via Affidavit of Facts in Support of Formal Complaint dated 23rd December 2025 and Further Affidavit dated 19th June 2026 bordering on the infamous conduct in a professional respect, professional negligence, malpractice in a general respect and gross professional negligence against Dr Aliyu Joseph Yahaya, Dr Chukwuebuka Igbokwe and Prof Jude Ehiabhi Okohue, leading to the avoidable death of his wife following child birth at Gynescope Specialist Hospital, Ikate, Lekki, Lagos State on 4th December, 2025.
The Panel sitting in Abuja, at its 27th Session held on Monday 28th September 2026 and Tuesday 29th September, 2026, established a prima facie case against Dr Aliyu Joseph Yahaya, who directly managed the deceased. The Panel consequently referred the said doctor to the Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Disciplinary Tribunal for determination and appropriate sanction in line with the provisions of the Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Act.
This decision is contained in the panels letter dated dated 5th October 2026 and signed by Dr. E.D. Abdu, Secretary to the Panel.
