A housewife, Olayinka Azeez, is lying critically at the hospital in Ogun State after her husband, Hassan Azeez a.k.a Saudi, poured some quantity of premium motor spirit on her and set her ablaze over food.
The incident happened on Friday at Ibogun Olaogun area of Ogun State, where they reside.
Police operatives from the Ogun State Command have started manhunt for the man, Hassan, who is now on the run after he realized that he had committed a serious crime, which will land him in prison custody for several years.
Trouble was said to have started after Hassan had an altercation with his wife and mother of one, for delaying to serve him breakfast.
The wife, Olayinka, reportedly told the husband, Hassan, that she will serve him breakfast after she was done with her early morning chores. Her excuse got the husband so angry and furious, which led to a heated argument between them. In the process, Hassan allegedly went for a gallon of premium motor spirit and poured it on her before setting her ablaze.
She was badly burnt, which caused pandemonium in the community before a male passerby, who was touched by the woman’s plight, had one of his legs also burnt while he was trying to save her from the inferno. Olayinka was eventually rescued by some residents, who then insisted that her husband must take her to a hospital for medical care.
However, the man, Hassan, reportedly refused to take her to the hospital but rather settled for a hired nurse to take care of Olayinka at their residence, which deteriorated her condition.
The residents later contacted Olayinka’s father, Pa Akintade, who lives in Ibadan, Oyo State, and in the process, she was taken to a hospital down there, where doctors had been battling to save her life.
The matter was reported to the Police in the area, who started looking for him but he escaped and had been at large.
On her condition, Pa Akintade explained that specialist doctors who examined her said that the sum of N1.5 million was needed for urgent surgery in order to restore her to good health and shape as her hands were badly damaged by the fire.
This was confirmed by the spokesman for the Ogun Police Command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who stated that the Police operatives were already on the trail of Hassan.
“It is true and we are currently still on his trail” SP Oyeyemi said.
He assured that the culprit would soon be apprehended and will be brought to book to face prosecution.
