A 5-year-old girl who was violently defiled by their neighbor, Aikoya Efe Sunday, may have received justice as a result of the Special Offenses Unit of the Lagos State High Court’s ruling.
On December 1, 2022, Mr. Sunday was given a life sentence without the possibility of a fine by Hon Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Special Offenses Unit of the Lagos State High Court for defiling the girl.
After being detained and found guilty of the claimed offense under Section 135 of the Lagos State 2015 Criminal Code, the Gender Section of the State Police Command brought a charge against him before the court.
To bolster its case against the defendant, the prosecution’s attorney called four witnesses.
The Court found that the evidence of the respective Prosecution witnesses were believable and consistent and found him guilty as charged.
The Presiding Judge, Justice Soladoye, particularly noted that the victim’s identification of the defendant and how she was sexually assaulted by the defendant, made her account vivid, believable and truthful.
“The Court noted that the Defendant is everything a neighbour should not be. He is irresponsible, mean and vile and his conduct should not be condoned. Most importantly, that the Prosecution proved the ingredients of the offence against the defendant”Justice Soladoye stated.
The Court therefore, convicted and sentenced him to life imprisonment on the one count charge against him and ordered that his name be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register as maintained by Lagos State.
