Legal Business Conference 2025: Meet Our Panelist, Michael Oluwafemi Alley

Michael is the principal architect at The Building Practice Ltd, a leading and multiple awardwinning architectural firm in Lagos, Nigeria. He has a rich history of working in the architecture, engineering & construction industry for the last two decades, during which he has worked as architect, builder, interior designer, project manager, fire consultant and sustainability/green buildings expert on a wide range of projects and building typologies for both private and public clients.

He attended the prestigious Federal Government College Kaduna, and is a strong art, design enthusiast with a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in Architecture from the Federal University of Technology Minna, a distinction Master’s degree in Environmental Design (MED) in Architecture from the University of Lagos, Nigeria and a Master’s degree in Business for Architecture and Design (MBArch) from IE University Madrid, Spain.

Michael is a fully registered Architect with the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON), a full member of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), an International Advanced Member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), a Certified project management professional (PMP) and a graduate member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM).

Michael also has a good knowledge of sustainable architecture and incorporates the various techniques into his everyday architecture practice. He has taken courses with EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) and the US Green Building Council & Green Building Certification inc. and is a certified Edge expert and LEED Green associate respectively. He has the relevant skills required to foster sustainable designs and developments through the promotion of water conservation, sustainable sites, indoor environmental quality, innovative designs, energy conservation and consideration for embodied energy in materials and has successfully completed and obtained EDGE certifications for notable projects in Nigeria.

He has a deep knowledge of fire protection and fire precaution measures with a strong understanding of the International Building Codes (IBC), the Nigerian Building Code (NBC), the International Fire Code (IFC) and the NFPA codes which he encourages strict adherence to in order to enhance fire and life safety and produce internationally acceptable designs and buildings.

Michael is married with two children, served as the practice committee chairman of the Nigerian institute of architects, Lagos state chapter (NIALSC) between 2022 and 2024 and currently serves as the president of the Federal Government College Kaduna Old Students Association (FGCKADOSA) Lagos Chapter.
