The office of the President of the Nigerian Bar Association is far more than a ceremonial position. At a defining moment such as this, the Nigerian Bar Association deserves a leader whose credentials are not built on lofty promises but on years of verifiable service, tested leadership, and unquestionable integrity.
It is for these compelling reasons that I proudly and unequivocally endorse the candidature of Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, for the office of President of the Nigerian Bar Association.
Yemi Akangbe is not merely seeking to lead the Bar; he has spent decades serving it. His professional journey reflects an uncommon commitment to the advancement of legal practice, the strengthening of our institutions, and the mentorship of generations of lawyers.
His elevation to the Inner Bar as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria was earned through distinction, while his appointment as a Member of the Body of Benchers further attests to the confidence reposed in his integrity, sound judgment, and unwavering fidelity to the highest ethical standards of the legal profession.
His contributions extend beyond the courtroom. As an accomplished arbitrator and respected dispute resolution expert, he has consistently championed efficient, innovative, and commercially responsive mechanisms for the administration of justice, positioning Nigerian legal practice to compete favourably within an increasingly global legal environment.
Those privileged to witness his stewardship as Chairman of the NBA Lagos Branch can attest that his administration remains a benchmark for visionary and transformational leadership. He pursued institutional reforms with courage, strengthened financial accountability, improved members’ welfare, expanded continuing legal education, embraced digital innovation, promoted mentorship for young lawyers, and demonstrated that prudent management and purposeful leadership can indeed transform professional institutions. His record is one of performance, not propaganda; delivery, not declarations.
The challenges confronting the Nigerian Bar today require more than eloquence. They demand experience, courage, independence of mind, and the capacity to unite lawyers across every divide. Our Association must continue to stand as the fearless defender of the Constitution, the rule of law, judicial independence, and democratic governance, while simultaneously advancing the welfare, professional development, and economic interests of legal practitioners throughout Nigeria. I am persuaded that Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN possesses the vision, temperament, and institutional memory to provide that leadership.
As lawyers, we are trained to decide matters on the strength of credible evidence. The evidence before us is overwhelming. Yemi Akangbe has consistently demonstrated competence over convenience, service over self-interest, and substance over slogans.
