Lawyer Vows to Champion Judicial Reforms in Imo

A former General Manager of Imo Oriental Agency, Martin Opara, has vowed that he would champion judicial reforms in the country throughout his legal career

Opara, who was among the 5,000 people called to the Nigeria Bar Association in Abuja last week, revealed that the major reason that spurred him into taking a degree in law was to champion the liberation of victimized people through judicial reforms.

Speaking with journalists in Owerri, the Imo State capital on Monday,Opara disclosed that he will explore legal means in his quest to ensure that the country’s judicial system becomes a fair ground for every citizen irrespective of class or background.

The new wig who is the President General of his autonomous community, Logara in the NgorOkpala Local Government Area of the state and OluOwerri, a sociocultural organization for the people of Owerri zone, said that the Nigerian judicial system as presently constituted doesn’t give hope for the common citizens.

The cultural activist expressed confidence that with commitment and greater advocacies the country’s judicial system would be reformed to equitably serve both the high and low in the country.

He said, “My journey into studying law is to give hope to hopeless. To give succour to the oppressed. I intend to explore legal means to achieve this.I know there are many legal and judicial hiccups but I am going to join other progressive minds to champion judicial reforms. We need to have a legal system that gives equal rights and privileges to all citizens of the country no matter the level of contacts and connections.

“Our chamber will concentrate mostly on pro brono cases for people who do not have the means to engage lawyers for legal services. Our resolve is that nobody deserved to be intimidated because of inability to access quality legal services. We believe in a system that serves justices to people without minding whose ox is gored. ‘’
