I am pleased to be speaking at PrivCon 2026, the 4th Annual Privacy Conference, holding on Tuesday, 1 September 2026 at The Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

I will be joining other privacy and data protection professionals for a panel discussion on an increasingly important issue in our digital ecosystem:

“Who Gave You My Number? The Hydra Headed Privacy Issues in SIM Deactivation and Reassignment.”

A mobile number today is much more than a means of communication. It is connected to banking services, digital platforms, authentication systems, social media accounts and a significant amount of personal information. When a SIM is deactivated and the number subsequently reassigned, important questions arise about the personal data and digital identity of the former subscriber, the exposure of the new subscriber, and the responsibilities of telecommunications operators and other service providers.

I look forward to discussing these issues from the legal, regulatory and data protection perspectives, particularly the safeguards and accountability mechanisms required to better protect data subjects within our increasingly interconnected digital environment.

This year’s conference theme, “Privacy Architecture: Every Block Counts,” is a timely reminder that effective privacy protection must be deliberately built into our systems, processes and technologies.

I look forward to an engaging conversation at #PrivCon2026.

Date: Tuesday, 1 September 2026
