A group of students from the Ogbomosho main campus of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Oyo State has taken legal action against Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, in a case related to the relocation of the institution’s Faculty of Agricultural Sciences to the newly established Faculty of Agricultural Science and Renewable Natural Resources at the Iseyin Campus in the Iseyin Local Government Area of the state.
These students, reportedly in their second year, had received instructions to move to Iseyin for the second semester of the current academic session. The lawsuit, bearing the reference HOG/34/2023, was filed at an Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso. The plaintiffs in this case are Akintayo Abdulqoyuum Ajibola, Onwi Edet, Ezekiel Ogunmola, and Aderemi Olude. They represent themselves, as well as other students and parents of the 200 Level students in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.
Although it has not been confirmed whether a hearing date has been scheduled for the case, the court document, dated Monday, October 30, and reported by Punch newspaper on Sunday, names the state Commissioner for Education, the acting Vice-Chancellor of LAUTECH, and the Provost of the Iseyin campus as additional defendants in the lawsuit.
The plaintiffs seek a court order to prevent the governor and his representatives from proceeding with the planned relocation of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences to the Iseyin Campus. The legal action underscores the concerns and opposition expressed by the students and their parents regarding the proposed relocation of their academic program.
