Lateef Akangbe SAN Visits Benin City, Engages Young Lawyers in Day of Legal Insight, Recognition, and Cultural Exchange

On June 13th, 2025, I had the privilege of spending an enriching day with the Young Lawyers’ Forum and NBA Benin Branch, one that brought together the pillars of practice, public service, for a purposeful engagement.

The day began with a courtesy visit to the Honourable Attorney General of Edo State, Hon. Samson R. Osagie, Ph.D. I was warmly received by the Attorney General, Directors, and Senior Officers at the Ministry of Justice Edo State. I was accompanied by representatives of the NBA Benin Branch and the YLF Benin Branch, it was an honour to engage with the leadership of the ministry. I commended them on their diligent work and dedication to justice delivery in the state, and in return, I was graciously acknowledged and presented with a symbolic Benin Artifact, a gesture I deeply appreciate.

From the Ministry, we proceeded to the NBA Benin Bar House, the venue of the highly anticipated “Connect & Cultivate” Workshop and Hangout. I was delighted to reconnect with the Chairman of the NBA Benin Branch, members of FIDA (International Federation of Women Lawyers), and of course, the brilliant young lawyers of the Benin Bar.

I delivered a lecture focused on the business of law and networking for young lawyers, sharing insights on navigating the evolving legal profession, building meaningful careers, and sustaining excellence in legal practice. The engagement was energetic, the questions were thoughtful, and the feedback was deeply humbling. I was honoured to receive an award of recognition from the NBA-YLF Benin Branch ably led by Osamuede Moses Ogbomo Esq., and even more, fulfilled by the genuine impact the session had on those present.

The day rounded off on a high note with the “Connect & Cultivate” Hangout a lively evening of music, food, laughter, and invaluable networking. It was heartwarming to see such a large turnout of passionate lawyers, all committed to learning, growing, and enjoying the moment.

A huge thank you to the Attorney General of Edo State and the members of his Chambers, NBA Benin Branch, the YLF Benin Branch, and everyone who made the day so memorable. I left Benin City inspired, connected, and hopeful for the future of the legal profession.
