Labour Party’s Achonu Demands Cancellation of Election Results in Parts of Imo Over Irregularities

The Labour Party governorship candidate in Imo State, Senator Athan Achonu, has called for the cancellation of results from certain polling units, citing alleged irregularities. Speaking in his hometown in Umulumo, Ehime Mbano local government area, Achonu revealed that party agents reported incidents of ballot box snatching and vote-buying during the governorship election.

He informed journalists that the Labour Party has officially written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) requesting the cancellation of results in the affected areas. Achonu further claimed that the electoral process in parts of the Ideato area of the state was marred by irregularities, including the intimidation of voters. The demand for result cancellation underscores concerns about the integrity of the electoral process and a commitment to addressing reported malpractices.

“This is unacceptable. We have already written to INEC to take appropriate steps to ensure that fake results are not uploaded,“ Achonu added.

The LP candidate also decried the absence of security agents around Orlu, Orsu, and other parts of the state.

However, INEC’s Head of Voter Education, Mrs. Emmanuella Opara, said the commission had not received any official report of irregularities during the election.
