The National Coalition of Northern Lawyers has lauded the Judgement of the Kano State High Court, which nullified the reinstatement of the former Emir of Kano State.
Recall that Court ruling nullified all actions taken by the state government after the Kano Emirate law was amended, citing a violation of a court order to maintain the status quo.
Justice Liman faulted the Governor’s assent to the bill and the presentation of an appointment letter to Sanusi on May 24th, 2024 despite an order of court directing all parties to maintain status quo.
The group hailed the judgment for upholding the rule of law and protecting traditional institutions. Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Convener Barrister Napoleon Otache, commended the court for its decision and urged the state government to respect the ruling and work towards peace and reconciliation.
The Lawyers also called for an apology to the current emir, Ado Bayero, for the hardship and humiliation inflicted upon him due to the unlawful dissolution of the Kano Emirates. The Coalition emphasized the importance of respecting the rule of law and the separation of powers, and advised the state government to prioritize peace and reconciliation in Kano State.
